The Treadmill again...

So I finally got my butt back into a routine and started doing the treadmill again. I started Monday and did it every other day at 15mins. Today I did 16mins. Hopefully by next week I'll be able to do 20 mins. I'm working it slow this time cause last time I tried this I hurt so bad that I couldn't even do housework lol

I've cut out sodas, drinking only water and milk. I cut out all sweets except on the weekends. I'm going to get some popsicle and graham crackers (cinnamon kind!) for snacks. I've done great all week but I've been so hungry it literally hurts!! I found that if I eat later at night around 7pm, I'm fuller and can sleep better. If I eat at 5:30 I'm hungry again before bed.

Mike's doing it with me - he's trying to loose enough weight to rejoin the military and do the Guard. Which is cool! I know he misses it tremendously.

He's doing the elliptical every night, he gets more of a workout on that contraption. I call it the evil monster cause I can't even do 5 mins on it with out dying. lol

Off to Wally World and the bookstore to get the new books that came in!

haven't posted in awhile...

My bday was the 22nd, Mike worked late so we just hung out afterwards and had dinner. Nothing major - turned 33 yrs old. Had to remind my sister she's older and will be turning 38 in August and getting closer to 40 :)

I picked more books as my own bday present - I finished the first series I picked up - The Darkest Powers Series - The Summoning and The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong - great series.

Kids are thrown into a home and develop supernatural powers (werewolves, telekinesis, lazer zapping and more) - they go through finding out what they have, grow in their powers - several twists in the story as to who is involved for them having the powers and so on - kept me reading :)

No sexual content, no foul language that I can recall - its ok for Amber to read.

The Summoning
After years of frequent moves following her mother’s death, Chloe Saunders’s life is finally settling down. She is attending art school, pursuing her dreams of becoming a director, making friends, meeting boys. Her biggest concern is that she’s not developing as fast as her friends are. But when puberty does hit, it brings more than hormone surges. Chloe starts seeing ghosts–everywhere, demanding her attention. After she suffers a breakdown, her devoted aunt Lauren gets her into a highly recommended group home.

At first, Lyle House seems a pretty okay place, except for Chloe’s small problem of fearing she might be facing a lifetime of mental illness. But as she gradually gets to know the other kids at the home–charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a “thing” for fire–Chloe begins to realize that there is something that binds them all together, and it isn’t your usual “problem kid” behaviour. And together they discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home either…

The Awakening
If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl—someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I'm as far away from normal as it gets. A living science experiment—not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a sinister organization called the Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control; I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.

Now I'm running for my life with three of my supernatural friends—a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch—and we have to find someone who can help us before the Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

I'm working on my next set of series - Sookie Stackhouse Novel - they made a series on HBO about it called True Blood. - so far its a little odd but we'll see how it goes.

-----------------------------------------

Amber had me go get her Thursday- she fell off her bike at a friends house and really danged up her knee. Its a miracle she has any skin left on it. She was fine all day, just rested and then Friday it boomed out like a melon and swelled??? No idea what happened but she had to stay off of it and it seems ok now. She was upset since we were going swimming at the hotel Sat and she didn't want to miss it - gotta love kids priorities lol!!

Saturday and Sunday we spent traveling around - Iowa to fix the house out there for the renters - we are still working on the sump pump not being hooked to the city line - the builder never connected it. Another thing to add to my list today - call city hall and talk to someone about it!! ughh that won't be fun...

But we did see a car for Mike on Sunday and its a keeper - a 1967 Rambler American - underneath isn't rusted but the inside needs works - not a bad little car for him. He needs something to have as a hobby and we haven't been able to get one for him in 2 years. This will keep him busy, at home and out of trouble :)

Did I mention he got a ticket on my bday? Yep - so that was my present this year a $75 fine lol.

We'll its been an eventful week. Hopefully this one will be just as much fun!!

Books...

Everyone is so into the vampire series Twilight and I just couldn't get into it. So I just tried finding books that I could get past the first chapter...

The first series of books is the Immortal Series - its unique as its not about vampires but death, reincarnation, love story, and immortals.
Evermore - Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste…

Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

loosing her family moving in with her aunt and starting over and finding love... great twists, no sex! just the 'tension' of it, teenage whatnots of being in school

Then there's there's the next book Blue Moon - the title comes into play at the end of the book! Same tension through the book, new twists but as an adult I caught on quicker to it, new characters... makes you really want to read the next book!

Eager to learn everything she can about her new abilities as an Immortal, Ever turns to her beloved Damen to show her the way. But just as her powers are increasing, Damen’s are waning.

In an attempt to save him, Ever travels to the magical dimension of Summerland, where she learns the secrets of Damen’s tortured past; a past which he has always kept hidden from her. But in her quest to cure Damen, Ever discovers an ancient text that details the workings of time. Now Ever must choose between turning back the past and saving her family from the accident that claimed their lives—or staying in the present and saving Damen, who grows sicker every day...

Took me 3 days to get through them, easy read - no large complicated words and I'm tempted to let my 12 yr old read them. Perfect for 15/16 and up.

Series 2! The House of Night Series by PC Cast - LOVE this series and eagerly waiting for the next book to come out!! Vampires, love stories, sex scenes (beware!), a little scary imaging, very intriguing and keeps your attention.

Enter the dark, magical world of The House of Night, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird has just been Marked as a fledgling vampyre and joins the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change--and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint her human ex-boyfriend. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends. Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night. She’s come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs--like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend…or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.
Bloodlust and dark forces are at work at the House of Night, and fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird’s adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And, oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this “highly addictive series” (Romantic Times), in which Zoey’s mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn’t have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare, Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn’t get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. But, as Zoey and her friends find out, things are not always what they seem…Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, the only two Zoey has left are undead and unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong. But will anyone listen to her? Zoey's adventures at vampyre finishing school take a wild and dangerous turn as loyalties are tested, shocking true intentions come to light, and an ancient evil is awakened in PC and Kristin Cast's spellbinding fourth House of Night novel. (Recommended for readers age 13 and older)The good news: Zoey’s friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren’t Neferet’s secrets any longer. The bad news: Ancient evil with the face of an angel has been let loose – that and various other nasties (whose faces aren’t so angelic). Grandma Redbird is in trouble. Heath is in trouble. The House of Night is in trouble. Okay, let’s face it – Zoey’s whole world is in trouble! But when the trouble comes from a being who appears to be beauty personified, will the world believe it? Especially when only a teenager and a group of misfits are the only ones who really understand the danger he brings. Will Zoey have the strength and wisdom to reveal the truth? Especially when, in the House of Night, the truth is often hard to come by…

Took me a little over a week to finish the series, I couldn't put them down and I had to hide them from my 12 yr old - not for anyone under 18 lol

Series 3 - just started with my daughter - My Sister is a Vampire!
Complete preteen book, daughter loved it and is dying for the next book, I read it and it as ok, fast read in 2 hrs. Cute, her age and no large words for her to be confused.

When Olivia Abbott moves to town, she's excited to join the cheerleading team and make new friends. Then she meets Ivy Vega. At first, Ivy, pale and dressed all in black, looks like Olivia's opposite. Then the girls look beyond the glittery pink blush and thick black eyeliner to discover they're identical—identical twins!

Olivia and Ivy are brimming with plans to switch places and pull every twin trick in the book. But Olivia soon discovers that she and Ivy aren't exactly the same. Ivy's a vampire. And she's not the only one in town.

I'll do a couple more reviews soon - ALL Books are going to be randomly drawn and sent out - to enter contest ad your name and email below and which book series you'd like to start reading.

My Secret Circle ...

Win a My Secret Circle Access Key at http://dewgin.blogspot.com/2009/07/my-secret-circle-by-senario-is-first.html

I was snooping the 40% off sale at Justice (the former Limitedtoo) and saw the My Secret Circle - its really neat. The girls go online by using a usb port you purchase

(You can get two packs, 1 packs, headphones and more)
, the bar at the top of the screen disappears so they can't go anywhere else but the main site, no one needs their information, no one can contact them outside their circle... its ideal for kids 6-13 (why we can't have circles like that I don't know - I'd love it! lol)

It doesn't need to leave the house so it doesn't get lost and they just hand their friend a code to put in, they know who they gave it to so you don't have to worry about who they are talking too. No one can just grab the code, once its used it voided. They can create as many codes as they need - the other girl just needs the My Secret Circle usb tool to log in and join the fun!!

Thought this was neat!! Had to share :)

Planning our meals...

Mike's been on me for months to go back to this - we used to have a menu on the fridge - we knew what dinner was every day for the month. We could mix it up or skip ones if needed but it was easier than asking ME 7 times a day 'What's for dinner?'. So Mike's compiling a list of what's in the freezer and what meals he wants. AND with our new table in the dinning room we WILL be eating together and not in separate rooms at dinner time (Amber normally runs off to her playroom and we sit in front of the tv - bad habit!)

I do LOVE this company - Dine Without Whine (hehe love the name!) - They have some great resources at your fingertips to make it easier for you to cook everynight :)

24 Reasons to Gather Around the Dinner Table

How often does your family have dinner together? If you're like most families nowadays, the answer is probably, "Not very often."

It's understandable. Modern families are busy. Both parents work and sometimes get home at different times. Children have activities to go to, and Mom's got to drive them all over the place. Really, who's got the time and energy to even cook dinner every single night?

You, that's who! Eating together is good for you and your family. So you better make time and find the energy to make home-cooked meals and sit down and eat together more often.

Researchers have found many benefits to home-cooked meals. Watch this video to learn about some of them. In my own experience, though, there are many more. Here are 24 reasons I have found to share family meals more often:

1. Families who eat together eat healthier, because home-cooked food is healthier than fast food.

2. Family meals allow busy families to catch up with each other.

3. Young children learn a lot of verbal skills just by eating with their family members.

4. It gives everyone a chance to unwind after a busy day.

5. Having family meals more often forces you to end your working day and other obligations in time for dinner.

6. Home cooked meals are not only healthier, they're also cheaper than takeout food or eating out.

7. Eating together forces everybody to tell stories.

8. Cooking at home motivates you to be creative with your meal planning and cooking.

9. Children can get involved in cooking meals.

10. Cooking and eating together creates happy childhood memories.

11. Eating together is an opportunity to explore different cuisines.

12. Eating with your family is more fun than eating in front of the television (or the computer).

13. Eating together gives parents a chance to talk about current events from their point of view, injecting their personal values without giving a lecture.

14. Eating together helps family members bond and get to know each other better.

15. You'll be surprised what your kids reveal when you're in a relaxed environment, such as a family meal.

16. Kids are less likely to roll their eyes when you reminisce and tell stories from your childhood while eating a meal together.

17. Family meals can be good teaching moments, even for small children. My toddler learned how to count by counting after-meal treats on his high chair.

18. Eating together is a good opportunity to teach and model good manners.

19. Family meals give a good transition from work or school to home life.

20. Family meals are also good times to share music together.

21. Family meals teach everyone valuable life skills, such as sharing and taking turns.

22. Stopping and sitting down to a meal gives everyone a chance to quiet down and regroup.

23. Family meals provide an additional occasion for family members to pray together.

24. Eating home is more eco-friendly than eating out or ordering food - less waste!

If you think having family meals is too much work, don't despair. You can get help for everything from meal planning to putting your weekly grocery shopping list together. Check out Dine Without Whine for kid-tested, quick recipes that will help you put together family meals with less effort. Dine Without Whine's weekly shopping lists will also help you get food shopping done much faster, and even save money on groceries.

As you can see from the list above, the extra time and effort you spend to have family meals more often are worthwhile.

Dinning Room Update...

Ok this is the shots from after repainting and before the new table and chair rail go in - my big picture on the wall is missing, its at Michaels getting a new frame - hasn't had new glass or frame in 10 years and with all the moves it needs it! lol

I did a color called Mountain Trail on the top and one call Old Burgundy on the bottom.

I have shadow boxes on the one wall with my new love of Willow Tree!! I have our Once Upon A Family tree framed with our immediate family information on it - need to get all the other leaves filled out! I found this gorgeous clock in a country store in town and fell in LOVE with it - works great in here!! My lonely plate holder is hanging there with no inspiration on how to make it work. I found the black cabinet on the bottom (has tin door panels) at The Empty Attic in Rock City, IL. The tall off color (no idea what color it really is) open cabinet was one I've stared at for months before buying. I had to wait for it to go on a major sale before even considering it lol. All the little things in it I found here and there in little country stores. Of course our old oak table and china cabinet (new one comes Tuesday!!)

I'm still putting things away in the kitchen where they belong so another week before I can take pictures there lol. Same Mountain Trail color in there :)

Polyvore...

It was recently in a Redbook magazine I get and its now wide spread through out the internet... So I had to check! It's neat - a little time to get used to it but its a way to keep tabs on your entire inventory of Gymboree clothing!!

You can make an outfit of what you have and save it - this way you don't duplicate something in your childs closet!

Here's a test one I did

Colorful Paradise
Colorful Paradise by gymbohaven on Polyvore.com

Our site is listed on there - we are working on intergrating the system into our site!!

How does this all work?
1 - Easy!! Go to Polyvore.com and Register on the top right.

2 - Sign in and hit the Create button

3 - You have two choices - you can search what's already there by All Items tab on the right and selecting hitting shirt, dresses, etc or you can add to your own collection

A. To add to your own collection you need to add a link to your tool bar - EASY! Click Here
Now grab the link that says Clip to Polyvore with your mouse (literally hit the mouse button on it and hold it down) now move your mouse to your toolbar up above (where you see the bookmarks and Tools area) and let go of the button. That wasn't hard, was it?

4 - Go to Gymbohaven.com OR ANY SITE and find what you want to polyvore with - when your there hit the link now located on your toolbar and it changes the site :) You now just have to click on the item you wanted to add to your collection - don't forget to add a name so your remember later what it is.

5 - go back to polyvore.com and go to Create and find your items. The next step is fun and easy to do - move and drag your items to the empty section and CREATE!!

6 - to make an item go infront or behind another item - hit the FGND (Forground) or BGND (Background) buttons.

7 - you can also make an item bigger or smaller after dragging it over - just grab a corner of the square with your mouse and move it.

8 - to save your items you hit the Publish button on the left - this saves it to your Sets area.

9 - to show everyone what you've done - go to your Sets area and click on the set and hit the View details link that appears. You can add it to your blog, to your website, to your facebook and more!!

HAVE FUN!!

Done painting...

Ok that's it - I'm done painting! lol Still have to put everything back in its place and do some caulking around the countertops but the kitchen, dinning room, hallway and bedroom are now painted. We were supposed to do the laundry room and Ambers bathroom but we are exhausted from it and waiting a couple months!!

My husband asks 'what's left?' - I looked at him and asked 'do you really want to know?' lol

My personal list:
Ceiling fan in the living room installed
Lights in the bathroom installed
Chair rail installed in dinning room (pick out stain)
Crown Molding installed through out entire house! lol (we'll do one room at a time)
Big Projects 1 - Redo kitchen by adding peninsula on - can't wait to unpack more of my kitchen items!!
Big Projects 2 - Redo bathroom - put in human size shower lol we have that single shower unit that mike hits his head on getting in, has to bend down in to rinse his hair and pulls the curtain out when he turns lol... I'm ok in it - sucks to shave in it though.
Big Project 3 - install french doors in kitchen and bedroom and extend deck... uhhh I think this is a 5 year plan... I keep planning it for 5 years and hopefully get something similar to it sooner or later.

My husbands list:
Hire someone!
Give wife neck massage til forgets what she wants done that day.

Whoo Hoo...

Who doesn't like free furniture! Ok it wasn't exactly free but it was heck of a close one.

Remember I bought the bedroom set? Well it arrived from Furniture Row and the bed wasn't exactly the same as the picture. Ours was supposed to have 5 panels across the front and the one that arrived has two HUGE panels on it. It didn't give it that umph that the picture showed. So we debated about sending it back...

Long(er) story short we ended up keeping it and the store manager Mike Baum (AWESOME PERSON) gave us a store credit or the choice to put it towards what we owed on the set. We choose the store credit since we already had the money budgeted for the set.

This is what we chose

We bought the table and 6 chairs (4 plain color like the table and 2 arm ones in black) with the wood warranty and ended up paying $169 out the door. NICE!!

Now to work towards getting the china cabinet
- once it arrives I can sell the table and china cabinet we have - its 10 yrs old and the older style oak. Put that money aside and save like crazy to get this china cabinet. We don't use credit cards anymore so its cash all the way baby!!

So far its a great 4th of July - just waiting for the rain to stop and be done cooking :) Have a great one!!
